AIMIA announces 2012 Awards Finalists

SYDNEY, Australia – 12 January 2012 - AIMIA today announced the finalists for its 18th Annual Awards with 139 entries selected as finalists across 26 categories.  Winners of the Awards will be announced and celebrated at the Digital Industry’s night of nights on Cockatoo Island, Sydney, on Friday 16th March 2012.

Known affectionately as “The Amys,” the AIMIA awards celebrate the best work of Australia’s Digital Content, Services and Applications Industry across a broad range of consumer, business, government and not-for-profit categories.

Paul McCarthy, AIMIA Awards Judging Chair, praised this year’s finalists. “We’ve had another round of fantastic entries this year and once again it’s been difficult for the judges to narrow the field. The finalists chosen showcase ground-breaking new work from digital media and services organisations across Australia and New Zealand.”

McCarthy said the list of finalist projects this year reveals some interesting digital industry trends.  “We’re now seeing research and customer feedback inform better digital media design, such as with Visual Jazz's new-look Jetstar website and BCM's Department of Transport & Main Roads - Road Trip game.

“We’ve also seen significant tablet and smartphone-based innovation from major newspaper publishers and broadcasters this year, across Australia's major news mastheads, including The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, SBS World News and Seven News.

“Mainstream adoption of digital media services continued, reaching millions of mainstream consumers.  The Woolworths iPhone and Android app is a great example of a digital service that’s revolutionising the way Australians do their grocery shopping.

John Butterworth, AIMIA CEO said, “Over the past year we’ve also seen some amazing innovation that makes use of digital’s unique and evolving characteristics, such as viral internet gaming; mobile applications with huge national impact and wide appeal; large Outdoor Interactive Digital Displays; gamification and crowd-sourced idea generation and ranking.”
