SMARTPHONE FILMS CELEBRATED AS THEY PAVE THE WAY FOR EMERGING FILMMAKERS

Australian cinematic history is set to take place as some of the country’s aspiring filmmakers and photographers showcase their Smartphone films and photos on the big screen during the second annual Mobile Screenfest International Awards held at a red carpet gala event at Event Cinemas, George St on October 26, 2011.
As Australia’s only film festival that features content shot solely on mobile phones, Mobile Screenfest International has provided emerging filmmakers with the perfect opportunity to break into the film industry by exhibiting their innovative, cutting‐edge short films to an audience of industry professionals as well as the general public.
Finalists on the night have been selected by an elite panel of judges including Mark Byrne (leading Australian talent agent), Carlo Ledesma (award‐winning director of The Tunnel), Geoff Field (popular 2Day FM personality) and YouTube celebrity comedian, Danny Grodzlich, who has over 70 million channel views.
Festival director Avnesh Ratnanesan said “There aren’t many film festivals in Australia where the audience will see content from filmmakers aged from 15 to 75 years but that’s exactly what Mobile Screenfest offers. With the prevalent use of Smartphones, it’s no wonder that the quality of the films entered this year have been exceptional. From the
small screen to the big screen, Mobile Screenfest is revolutionising the film industry, making it accessible for almost everyone to get involved and give it a go.”
Festival attendees can expect to see a diverse range of films, all less than four minutes, from genres including comedy, drama and international as well as a music video, a documentary and films shot by under 15s.
